Harsharan Singh Rana (Harry) – Senior Partner
Harry read Law (LLB) at Middlesex University and graduated in July 1995. He completed his LPC (Legal Practice Course) at The College of Law, Store Street, London in July 1996. He was then fortunate enough immediately to secure a Training Contract with a High Street practice, which he successfully completed in August 1998.
Harry qualified as a solicitor on 3rd August 1998 and became a partner in my own firm on the very same day and continued this Partnership until May 2004 when he set up HSR Solicitors himself with two salaried partners within the same premises.
Harry is the Franchise Supervisor for the Criminal Department and specialises in Criminal Defence work. He is a qualified duty solicitor and regularly appears before the local Magistrates’ Court and police stations. He has trained many lawyers, Police Station Representatives and Paralegals over the years. He is a member of the Law Society Accreditation Scheme and the Criminal Law Solicitors Association.
Harry successfully achieved membership of the VHCC Panel (Very High Costs Cases Panel) enabling him to deal with the country’s most complex criminal cases.
He has experience in and successfully defended a wide range of criminal offences ranging from Murder & Serious Violent offences, Serious Fraud, drugs offences, Proceeds of Crime (POCA) and Road Traffic Offences. Harry has a particular interest and knowledge in cases involving Steroids and has represented various body builders across the country.
Throughout his career, Harry has represented defendants nationally from Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham, Leicester, Exeter, Bristol, Norwich as well as London. He has been involved in many high profile cases and has represented some well-known actors and Sportsmen. Harry also represented one of the defendant’s in the first “Super-grass” case in the country, which was featured in the BBC programme – ‘Panorama’. He was involved with many cases in the Tottenham Riots in August 2011. Harry has also been involved in a number of Extradition cases and acted for clients in international jurisdictions such as Finland and Germany, involving multi-million pound frauds (carousel fraud).

Harry has managed to obtain many acquittals for numerous defendants and has built himself an impeccable reputation with clients, colleagues and the Courts. He is highly regarded by senior barristers, Queens Counsel and many Judges and is often recommended for his dedication and perseverance. Harry is an active member of the Society of Asian Lawyers and was responsible for arranging and organising the Social events for many years.
Jubril Rufai – Partner
Jubril qualified as a solicitor in 2002 and became a Partner at HSR Solicitors in May 2004. Jubril is now Head of the firm’s Property department and has a wealth of experience in residential and commercial conveyancing having specialised in these areas since qualification.
Jubril has practised within the locality since 2002, with an expanding practice throughout the UK. Jubril has a well-deserved reputation for his work ethics with a large proportion of his work being referred by clients who frequently recommend him to their friends and families.
With the increasing requirement for specialisation within the profession, Jubril soon discovered that his forte lay in complex commercial transactions of Property Law. Whilst specialising in this aspect of law, Jubril has gained an enviable breadth of knowledge in other property related matters such as Landlord and Tenants disputes, Planning and enforcement matters, Licensing and Property litigation.
Jubril has gained extensive experience in a wide range of property transaction ranging from Right to buys by local authority tenants to Compulsory Purchases of both business premises and properties by the council.
Some of Jubril’s notable cases include acting for a number of clients during the acquisition of businesses in Stratford in preparation for the Olympics. Jubril also acted for a number of local businesses in the acquisition by the Local Council of business premises in Ben Jonson Road, including in some cases the re-grant of Leases to other premises.
Jubril has built a strong reputation for providing high quality work and has undertaken work throughout the UK and acted for property investors both here in country and overseas.

Under Jubril’s supervision HSR Solicitors has successfully been reaccredited under the CQS scheme and we are now in our third year of membership.

Jaspal Singh – Solicitor
Jaspal Singh has been working in the field of criminal defence for over 10 years and has been qualified as a Solicitor in 2010, he is also qualified court and police station duty solicitor.
Jaspal is confident and experienced in representing clients whether they are at the police station, in the Magistrates, Crown court or the Court of Appeal.
He is experienced in defending clients in a range of criminal matters, including, multi-handed murders, serious fraud matters, proceeds of crime offences, serious sexual offences including historical sexual offences, multi-handed robberies, burglaries, serious drug offences, and offences involving serious violence.
His most recent cases of note which have been reported in local and national media include defending a client charged along with other persons of committing trafficking offences and related sexual offences. He was instructed in defending the manager of a care home charged with the rape of a vulnerable resident. He has also been instructed to defend clients charged with multi-handed benefit fraud matters.
When Jaspal has spare time he likes to keep active, he has trekked the two highest peaks in the UK, Ben Nevis and Mount Snowdon. The next challenge that he undertook was the Tough Mudder event. He is continually planning his next conquest and is currently planning his next trip to trek Everest Base Camp. Jaspal likes to keep fit and works out regularly. Jaspal is a big fan of music and makes time to see his favourite musicians whenever possible and is learning how to play the guitar.
Steven Ames – Solicitor and Higher Courts Advocate
Steven read Law at the University of East London and completed his LPC (Legal Practice Course) at The College of Law. He secured a training contract with a High Street practice which he completed in 2006. Steven subsequently qualified as a Duty Solicitor. Steven then gained Higher Courts Qualification allowing him to conduct advocacy in the Crown Court and the High Court. Steven has many years of experience in serious criminal cases, preparation and advocacy, he frequently exercises his Higher Rights in the Crown Court at all stages of proceedings including jury trials. He has a varied case load and has represented numerous clients in court for Robbery, GBH, ABH, Arson, Murder, Conspiracy, Firearms and Drug possession.
Saiqa Atif-Khan – Solicitor
Saiqa studied Law at Greenwich University and then went on to complete her Legal Practice course at the College of Law in London. She secured her training contract with a City firm which she completed in 2009 and subsequently qualified as a Solicitor.
Saiqa commenced employment with HSR Solicitors in October 2016. Although new to the team, she provides invaluable assistance to the property department. She has extensive knowledge in all areas of residential Conveyancing in particular but not limited to Purchases, Sales, Right-to-buys, Re-Mortgages, Leases and Transfer of Equity.
In relation to commercial matters, she regularly deals with the granting and assigning of shop leases and drafting various Licences for Landlords.
